When we talk about creating positive change, we’re not just throwing some term around and hoping that it resonates. Using driver scorecard as part of your GPS tracking solution creates real, measurable benefits for your drivers.

Implementing a fleet tracking solution to any organization is the first step in bettering that organization’s safety.

Many businesses report seeing a decrease in driver exceptions from week 1 to week 2, then driver exceptions continue to trend down for weeks before stabilizing.

A lot of this is drivers self-regulating themselves as they learn which driving behaviors are acceptable and which are not. Based on violations, drivers scoring shows which drivers lead the team by having the fewest violations.

Regardless of what your reasoning may be, your drivers will immediately improve their behavior because they know they are in competition with one another. Then, our driving scoring feature helps drivers identify the areas they can improve so they can get to the top.

We do recommend driver incentives based on performance, but even without incentives your drivers will want to be the top driver any given week/month and the driver scorecard will show that.

The only way for them to be on top of the leaderboard is by improving their driving habits, thus improving their own safety, which benefits the entire organization.

Establish Safety Standards and Review Driver Behavior

Taking the time to review driver exceptions with drivers is how any business can make sure that they are prioritizing safety, but before that some safety standards need to be established.

We track several driving behaviors and violations, but only three count towards a driver’s scorecard. Those are: Excessive Speeding, Hard Braking, and Fast Starts

If your organization establishes drivers should not have more than 10 violations in any week, there are no grey areas about expectations. Talk to an except about setting expectations in your organization.

Then, once the expectations are established, any drivers who are still in violation can be reviewed and coached on improving behavior. If there is a zero-tolerance policy, your fleet will improve by getting rid of poor drivers.

With time and training, you’ll have a fleet that exemplifies safety without any prompting. You can get started today.
