James Jaillet at CCJ (@trucknewsjj) reported Monday that the Department of Transportation is expected to issue a new mandate for speed limiters on heavy trucks later this week. This is in addition to the existing mandate for electronic logbooks, that require a GPS tracker, already in flight and waiting final approval and launch date. James reports that it is unknown yet if the new mandate for speed limiters will require retrofits for existing trucks or will simply be for newly manufactured trucks.
The electronic logbooks mandate or AOBRD (GPS tracking device and electronic log book) requirement is expected to be finalized and cleared by the end of September of 2015. Reportedly, companies will have 2 years to fully comply.
